![]() ![]() ![]() the desktop, taskbar and icons reappear as normal) and most of the games I play are at 2560x1440 which isn't affected by this issue. it is tied to my old account)?Īs I said the issue is more of a nuisance than anything else as restarting explorer always resolves the problem (i.e. However, I wonder if this issue might be connected somehow if one of the NVIDIA folders that deals with DSR doesn't have the correct security permissions or something (i.e. I did this because of a Cortana menu bug - the text was not visible when I clicked on the Start menu, although it was fine otherwise when searching - and found that it was displaying OK on a new account.Īpart from a couple of security permissions issues with games, the new account works exactly as it did before (it uses the same Microsoft account). ![]() I also neglected to mention that about 4-5 months ago I created a new Windows account and moved all my files from AppData across from the old account before testing it then deleting the old account. I should have added that I've been using Fences for a couple of years now and haven't had any issues until recently. Though you need to off the setting for display scaling during the initial switch because the OS thinks you need 150% - 200% DPI scaling and that really messes up how DSR and VSR works in windowed/borderless mode. Hotkey the native resolution, hotkey the downsampling resolution and then switch to the downsampling res, start the game and then exit the game and switch back and it won't re-arrange anything. (I personally enjoy borderless but it's not without some disadvantages.) ![]() Again though exclusive full screen is preferable. (Though flip mode and those features from Windows 8 and newer aren't too common under DirectX 11 applications just yet unless forced.)ĮDIT: Ah that would be this for the hotkeys. Personally I really dislike the re-arranged task bar order for open windows/folders/software so I use windowed mode and hotkeys for tagging the resolution but exclusive full screen has latency and performance improvements even for Windows 10 so it's generally superior even if full-screen optimizations and other tweaks try to improve windowed/borderless performance and responsiveness. Usually when I exit the game the desktop is refreshed and the Fences (v3.09) windows reappear with the icons correctly arranged within them so it is possible that it is a conflict between it and NVIDIA's DSR.Ĭould be a OS issue but I'd try without the software first just to be sure. I do use a number of Stardock applications such as Start10 and Fences. If I load a game using DSR then immediately exit it then explorer usually does not crash but actually playing the game increases the chances of explorer hanging when I exit the game. It only seems to happen if I use DSR to running games at a higher resolution. If I play games at the native 2560x1440 resolution of my display then this issue does not happen. I discovered that the issue only happens when I use DSR 4K or 5K in these games. I fixed this by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc to bring up Task Explorer and restarting the explorer process (which shows at 15-17% usage). Sometimes explorer would crash and restart but other times I'd be left with a spinning mouse cursor and a non-functional desktop and taskbar. I first noticed the issue when file explorer would appear to hang on exiting certain games to the desktop. I am using the latest v399.07 WHQL driver for the graphics card but this issue has persisted across several drivers so it isn't an issue with a specific driver. I use a 165 Hz ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q G-SYNC display via DisplayPort at 2560x1440. I've been experiencing a mildly annoying though not serious issue for a couple of months now that seems to related to the use of DSR.įirst of all my PC is an i7-4770K, 16 GB, GTX 1080 Ti system running Windows 10 Pro v1803 64-bit. ![]()
